Walker Upsets Top-Ranked Kraszewski 6-0, 6-1

Westwood, Calif. -- In a battle of top-10 players, Bruin freshman Sara Walker posted an impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory over top-ranked Kristina Kraszewski of Washington, helping No. 8 UCLA to a 7-2 victory over the 22nd-ranked Huskies at the Los Angeles Tennis Center Friday.
With the win, Walker, ranked No. 7 in the latest ITA singles rankings, improved to 12-2 in dual matches this season and notched her fourth victory over a top-10 opponent. She has already posted wins over No. 10 Chin-Bee Khoo (Arkansas), No. 8 Aarthi Venkatesan (Georgia) and No. 4 Jewel Peterson (USC).
UCLA won five of six singles matches as, in addition to Walker, Annica Cooper, Abigail Spears, Elizabeth Schmidt and Catherine Hawley all notched victories. Both Schmidt and Cooper dropped the first set and battled back to win their matches in three.
With the win, UCLA improves to 12-7 overall and 4-1 in Pac-10 play. Washington falls to 11-8 and 3-4 in conference action.
The Bruins return to the court tomorrow as they host Washington State at the LATC beginning at Noon. Saturday is also Senior Day for Bruin seniors Amanda Basica, Annica Cooper and Elizabeth Schmidt.
