May 08, 2026 | Women's Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. โ The UCLA women's tennis team had its season ended Friday by host and top-seeded Georgia in a 4-1 result at Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The Bulldogs advanced to final-site action, also to be played on their home court, starting with quarterfinals on Friday, May 15.
Bianca Fernandez notched a ranked win for the Bruins (18-8), accounting for their lone point. UCLA's Mayu Crossley neared her third top-10 victory of the campaign, but the freshman's match was abandoned one game short. Emma Dong delivered the clincher for Georgia (21-5), which also got singles wins from Deniz Dilek and Sofia Rojas after claiming the doubles point.
The Bulldogs earned an advantage in doubles play when Dong/Anastasiia Gureva beat Kayla Chung/Ahmani Guichard 6-2 on Court 3. Each of the remaining matches was knotted at three games apiece, but Georgia would ride its momentum to the opening point. With match points on both courts, No. 19 Anastasiia Lopata/Patricija Paukstyte took down No. 24 Olivia Center/Kate Fakih 6-3 to clinch on Court 1.
The Bulldogs took four singles first sets, including a 6-0 performance by No. 81 Rojas on Court 6. Guichard fought back, but was ultimately outlasted in a 6-0, 7-5 decision that doubled the Bruins' deficit. No. 64 Dilek then defeated Fakih 6-4, 6-3 on Court 3, putting UCLA on the brink of elimination.
Fernandez provided an answer on Court 4, dealing No. 61 Gureva a 7-5, 6-4 defeat. The victory was the third of the ranked variety this year for Fernandez, and 10th of her career.
With Crossley nearing a positive result on Court 2, No. 93 Dong knocked off Center by a 7-5, 6-2 margin on Court 5. In the other unfinished contest, on Court 1, 15th-ranked Lutkemeyer of the Bruins was two points away from a second-set win after dropping her first with No. 19 Lopata.
