Valerie Flores Named UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete Of The Week

Flores was the top Bruin performer at the NCAA West Regional Championships. She placed fourth in 20:30, earning All-Regional honors. The Bruin women placed second overall with 69 points behind Stanford (45 points), the defending Regional Champions. UCLA earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. It is the first time that an UCLA cross country team has earned an automatic team bid.

This is Flores' first UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.

Also nominated: Chad Barrett, M. Soccer (scored the game-tying goal against San Diego); Brandon Chillar, Football (tied a career-high with 14 tackles and a fumble recovery against Oregon); Erik Emilsson, M. Cross Country (was the Bruin's top finisher at NCAA Regionals, finished 17th and qualified for NCAA Championships); Iris Mora, W. Soccer (scored the game-winning goal against Pepperdine in the second-round of the NCAA Tournament); Brynn Murphy, W. Volleyball (recorded 38 kills and five blocks in UCLA's matches against Cal and Stanford); Brett Ormsby, M. Water Polo (scored the game-winner in overtime to lift UCLA to a 7-6 win over Pepperdine); Kim Vandenberg, Swimming (won both the 100 free and 200 free at both Arizona and Arizona State).
