
Bruins Defeat Dinos 3-2 in Canadian Tournament Opener

The UCLA men's volleyball team defeated the University of Calgary 3-2 in opening night action of the Husky Dino Cup.
The Bruins won 25-20, 23-25, 27-29, 25-13, 15-8.
Game 3 was a thriller with numerous long rallies before Calgary won it on Eric von Engelbrechten's kill that found the back of the UCLA end line. von Engelbrechten's game-winner came on Calgary's fifth attempt at game point.
UCLA dominated the fourth game, leading 8-6 and 16-8 at the technical breaks and by hitting .368 to tie the match at two games apiece.
In Game 5, UCLA took an early 4-1 lead and did not look back. The Dinos managed to close the gap to 6-4 before the Bruins pulled away.
Steve Klosterman paced UCLA with 19 kills (.464), four service aces, 11 digs and a solo block while Jonathan Acosta had 10 kills and eight digs. Aaron Dodd and Julio "Gaby" Acevedo split time at setter with Dodd recording 31 assists and Acevedo 21. Damien Scott and Nick Scheftic each added nine kills and freshman libero Tony Ker led the team with 11 digs.
The Bruins hit .338 for the match, including .588 in Game 5.
von Engelbrechten led Calgary with 17 kills and seven digs.
