The No.1 ranked UCLA men's volleyball team won its seventh straight match, 14th of the season and 20th straight against the University of the Pacific Saturday night in Pauley Pavilion.
The Bruins won 30-22, 30-22, 27-30, 30-16 in one hour and 20 minutes before 518 fans. The victory raised the Bruins' overall record to 14-1 and 10-1 in league play. They moved ahead of Pepperdine (9-1) into second place of the MPSF race. Pacific, which lost its fourth straight match, fell to 9-8 and 3-6.
Like Thursday night, the Bruins easily won the first two games before falling behind by eight points in Game 3 at 16-8. The Bruins managed to climb back into it and cut the deficit to two points at 19-17, but the Tigers pulled away and won 30-27.
The Bruins took control in Game 4 by racing to a 5-1 lead before the Tigers called timeout. Pacific never got any closer, using its final timeout at 10-4.
Sophomore Steve Klosterman came off the bench and pounded a season-high of 17 kills in just two games of action. Klosterman started Game 3, slammed eight kills in 12 attempts and came back in Game 4 and spiked nine kills in 14 swings. Hit .500 for the match and led the team with 18 points, another season high.
Senior Paul Johnson added 13 kills (.435), four total blocks and 15.5 points. Senior Brennan Prahler, who started at opposite, added 10 kills and a block assist.
Pacific's Brian Zodrow led both teams with 21 kills, two solo blocks and 23 points.
Next week, the Bruins host third-ranked Hawaii on Feb. 25 and 26. First serve for both matches is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion. Hawaii, 10-1 overall and 8-0 in league, leads the MPSF race. The Rainbow Warriors recently swept a two-match series against USC.
