
Bruins Top Gauchos in Five Games

The No.1 ranked UCLA men's volleyball team edged No.8 UC Santa Barbara in five games Friday night.
The Bruins won 30-20, 30-25, 28-30, 22-30, 15-12 in two hours and 24 minutes before 428 spectators at UCSB's Rob Gym. The victory raised the Bruins' record to 10-1 overall, 6-1 in league play. The Gauchos fell to 5-6, 5-3.
Seniors Jonathan Acosta and Paul Johnson spiked 15 and 13 kills, respectively to lead the Bruins. Johnson, who hit .308, also added five total blocks and a pair of aces. Senior Allan Vince led the Bruins with seven total blocks.
UCLA, which hit .274, held UCSB to a hitting percentage of .255 and outblocked the Gauchos 16.5-10.5.
Evan Patak, the national kills leader, led the Gauchos with 26 kills.
The Bruins return to Pauley Pavilion next week for a six-match homestand that begins with a key conference match against long Beach State on Feb. 9.
