
UCLA Beats USC in four Games

The top-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team won its 18th match of the season and 13th straight against cross-town rival USC Thursday night.
The Bruins won 29-31, 30-25, 30-28, 30-27 in two hours and 25 minutes before 475 fans at USC's North Gym. The victory raised the Bruins' overall record to 18-2, 13-2 in MPSF play. USC fell to 5-17, 1-13.
Each game was close until the end, as the Trojans didn't let the Bruins off easily. USC overcame a 28-26 deficit in the first game in its comeback win. The Trojans were within 28-25 in the second game before the Bruins scored the last two points. The third game was tied at 27-27 before UCLA got the edge. The Bruins held a slim 28-26 lead in the final game before clinching the victory.
With the victory, UCLA captures another 2.5 points in the Lexus Gauntlet competition between the schools, upping its season-long all-sports lead to 45-30.
Seniors Paul Johnson and Jonathan Acosta led the Bruins with 15 kills apiece. Johnson added six total blocks. Senior Allan Vince added 14 kills (.414) and seven total blocks.
Pedro Leal led the Trojans with 19 kills.
UCLA concludes its week with a showdown at No.2 Pepperdine on Saturday night beginning at 7 p.m. in Firestone Fieldhouse.
