
UCLA Defeats Stanford at UCSB Tournament

The UCLA men's volleyball won its 2006 season opener Friday, defeating Stanford in the first round of the UCSB/Elephant Bar Collegiate Invitational.
The Bruins won 30-14, 30-24, 30-22 and will advance to the second round to play UC Santa Barbara, which outlasted UC Irvine, 3-2. The Bruins-Gauchos match will be played at 7 p.m. tonight.
Freshman Sean O'Malley led the Bruins with 14 points, recording 10 kills and seven total blocks. Senior Damien Scott added nine kills, two aces and one solo block. Freshman Jamie Diefenbach recorded eight kills and five total blocks and junior Paul George contributed eight kills.
As a team the Bruins hit .460 with four aces, and 17 total blocks.
