Joelson Still Alive in Pac-10 Invitational Draw.

Women's Tennis Players Dominate Singles Draw at ITA Regionals

San Diego, Calif. - UCLA's Ashley Joelson stunned top-seeded Amanda Fink of USC in three sets Friday, headlining a group of five Bruins who reached the quarterfinals in singles at the Wilson/ITA West Region Championships.

Joelson, the No. 14 seed, defeated Fink, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 to set up a quarterfinal showdown with teammate Alex McGoodwin. McGoodwin was a straight-set winner over UNLV's Kristin Nedeltcheva, 6-2, 6-1.

Three other Bruins made it to the quarterfinals Friday, as fourth-seeded Riza Zalameda defeated USC's Julie Smekodub, 6-1, 6-4. She will next face USC's Sarah Fansler. Fansler was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over junior Elizabeth Lumpkin in the third round.

Sixth-seeded Tracy Lin dispatched of ninth-seeded Sylvia Kosakowski of Pepperdine, 7-5, 7-5. She will play another Pepperdine player, Bianca Dulgheru, on Saturday. The final Bruin to advance was freshman Yasmin Schnack, who knocked off USC's third-seeded Dianne Matias, 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4.
