No. 11 UCLA Posts 7-0 Shutout Over No. 17 ASU

Tempe, Ariz. - The No. 11 UCLA women's tennis team proved too much for No. 17 Arizona State on Saturday, posting a 7-0 victory in a non-conference match at the Whiteman Tennis Center. With the win, UCLA improves to 7-2 overall, while the Sun Devils fall to 6-2.
Despite playing without No. 1 player Riza Zalameda, the Bruins managed to claim the doubles point before winning all six singles matches in straight sets. ASU actually had a lead in the doubles when it took an 8-6 victory at court No. 1, however the Bruins managed to bounce back by taking a pair of 8-5 wins at court Nos. 2 and 3.
Playing her first match at the No. 1 singles position, senior Laura Gordon quickly took care of 65th-ranked Sabrina Capannolo, winning 7-6(0), 6-1. UCLA's other singles winners on the day were Tracy Lin, Alex McGoodwin, Ashley Joelson, Elizabeth Lumpkin and Anna-Viktoria Lind.
UCLA returns to action on Friday, Mar. 3, hosting Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at the Los Angeles Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m.
