LOS ANGELES - The UCLA softball team (29-3, 1-1 Pac-10) suffered its third loss of the 2006 season on Saturday afternoon at Easton Stadium, falling to California by a 10-3 margin. Two Bruins, Emily Zaplatosch and Andrea Duran, connected on home runs during the game.

In the top of the first inning, UCLA surrendered an unearned run, but the Bruins came back with a two-out rally in the bottom half of the frame on a single from Caitlin Benyi and a home run to left by Emily Zaplatosch to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead.

UCLA extended its lead in the bottom of the third inning when Duran hit her seventh home run of the season, a shot over UCLA's 1985 NCAA Championship banner in left field.

That lead held until the top of the fifth inning when the Golden Bears connected on nine straight hits and scored nine runs in the frame. UCLA was unable to mount a comeback as the final score was a 10-3 California victory.

The Bruins and Golden Bears return to the Easton Stadium field on Sunday afternoon for a 1 pm first pitch.
