
Streak Reaches Eight as Bruins Down Matadors

Seventh-ranked UCLA won its eighth straight match, defeating No. 4 Cal State Northridge in MPSF men's volleyball action Friday night.
The Bruins won 30-26, 17-30, 30-28, 30-28 in one hour and 58 minutes before 1,071 fans at the Matadome. The Bruins' victory avenged a five-game setback to the Matadors in Pauley Pavilion on Feb. 10 and raised their overall record to 20-12, 12-10 in conference play. The Matadors, who dropped their second straight match this week, fell to 18-10 overall, 13-9 in league play.
Junior Steve Klosterman slammed a career-high of 30 kills (.390) to lead all players and added three total blocks. Senior Damien Scott recorded 18 kills (.571) and three total blocks and senior Nick Scheftic added 11 kills (.308) and four block assists. Sophomore libero Tony Ker recorded 14 digs, followed by junior Paul George's 11.
Dan Rhodes and Cary Hanson led CS Northridge with 15 kills apiece.
The Bruins will host the first round of the MPSF playoffs on Wed., Apr. 19 against UC Santa Barbara, a team they have beaten three times this season. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
