Senior Kevin Chappell and freshman Philip Francis each recorded first round victories and the fourth-seeded Bruins advanced to the quarterfinals at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship Sunday at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, GA.

UCLA defeated 13th-seeded Minnesota, 3-2 in the first round and will meet 12th-seeded Tennessee Monday. The Volunteers beat fifth-seeded Oklahoma State, 3-2.

Chappell beat Minnesota's Victor Almstrom 3 & 2, and Francis won 4 & 2 against Justin Kaplan to give the Bruins two points. The Gophers picked up point when Clayton Rask defeated UCLA senior Craig Leslie, 3 & 2. The remaining two matches featuring UCLA's Erik Flores and Jason Kang were halved giving the Bruins the one combined point they needed to clinch the victory.
