With 38 seconds remaining in regulation, UCLA sophomore Chance Myers gave his team a second chance to win the game, but the luck of the Irish ultimately prevailed in overtime, giving No. 9 Notre Dame the 2-1 victory over the top-ranked Bruins in the 2007 season opener at the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic.

Trailing 1-0 for most of the game, Myers gave UCLA new life with a goal at 89:22 off an assist from Mike Zaher. The Bruins' joy was short-lived, however. Just three minutes into the first overtime period, Alex Yoshinaga scored the game-winner off assists from Jeb Brovsky and 2006 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy winner Joseph Lapira.

Notre Dame scored what had looked to be the game's only goal at 23:32 when Yoshinaga assisted on Lapira's first goal of the year. UCLA had trouble getting much past six-foot-six Irish goalkeeper Chris Cahill, who had four saves on eight Bruin shots, including three saves in the second half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brian Perk took the loss, just his second in his eight career starts. He made two saves while facing 13 Notre Dame shots.

The Bruins (0-1) will face another Top 10 squad on Sunday, Sept. 2 with a matchup against host team and seventh-ranked Indiana. The game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network at 11 am PT.
