The men's cross country team finished in a tie for 26th on Monday at the 2008 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, IN. The Bruins, ranked 27th heading into the meet, were led by senior Laef Barnes as he finished 89th with a time of 30.48.7. The Bruins posted a score of 576 points. Oregon won the team title, followed by Iona and Stanford.

"We came here with hopes for a higher place finish then being tied for 26th," said head coach Eric Peterson. "Obviously one of our goals was to get this team back to the NCAA Championship and challenge ourselves at the national level. What we are going take away from this expereiince is a good idea of what we need to work on to strengthen our program in the future."

Senior Drew Shackleton was the No. 2 runner for the Bruins as he finished 113th with a time of 31:00.5. Senior Mike Haddan (138th, 31:10.1), sophomore Kent Morikawa (165th, 31:25.3) and junior Marlon Patterson (209th, 31:55.6) rounded out the top five scorers for the Bruins.

"I'm really proud of the senior leadership we've had in this team with Laef, Mike and Drew. I'm not surprised that in this meet those three guys led us in the race. Also, I'm thankful that we have several young guys who gained some experience in this meet and are ready to be able to draw from that in the future as we get better. It's a great championship to be a part of and this team has worked very hard to earn that chance. I think we're walking away feeling as though this one got away from us, but hungry to get back in the future."
