The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team grabbed the first-round lead Sunday at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational, hosted at Peninsula Golf Club in Sonora Mexico.

The Bruins were the only team under par after the opening round, posting a one-under par 287, eight strokes in front of Pac-10 rival Arizona State. The Sun Devils posted a score of 295 (+7), followed by third place Denver at 296 (+8). Oklahoma State and Tulane were tied for fourth at 299 (+11). Duke, USC and Tennessee were tied for sixth at 302 (+14).

Three Bruins were among the Top 10 individual following Sunday's first round: freshman Stephanie Kono and sophomores Glory Yang and Maria Jose Uribe. Kono and Yang posted scores under par -- Kono was tied for second after firing a three-under 69 and Yang was tied for fourth after carding a one-under par 71. Uribe posted a score of 72 (E) and was tied for sixth. Seniors Tiffany Joh and Ryann O'Toole were tied for 22nd and 28th, respectively. Joh posted a 75 (+3) and O'Toole carded a 76 (+4).

Arizona State's Juliana Murcia held the first round lead after opening with a score of 67 (-5). She led Cal's Pia Halbig and Kono by two shots.
