Box Score

UCLA overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to tie the score in the 73rd minute on a Kelyn Rowe goal, but Stanford broke the tie with just over five minutes to play, giving the Cardinal a 2-1 win in Stanford on Friday evening.

Stanford nabbed a 1-0 lead at 22:24 on a Bobby Warshaw penalty kick that was awarded after a foul in the box. The Bruins dominated possession for most of the game from that point on, outshooting the Cardinal, 22-9 in the contest, including 14-4 in the second half. But the Bruins could not get much past Stanford goalkeeper Galen Perkins, who stopped eight shots.

Rowe broke through at 72:08, dribbling down the middle of the field and then shooting to the top left corner for his fifth goal of the year. The goal extended his scoring streak to five games.

UCLA continued pushing for the go-ahead goal but kept getting denied by Perkins, who made stops on Chandler Hoffman in the 75th minute, Victor Chavez in the 82nd minute and Eder Arreola in the 83rd minute.

The Cardinal made a critical substitution in the 85th minute, bringing in Dersu Abolfathi, who made an immediate impact, scoring just 30 seconds after coming into the game. Taylor Amman started the play with a flick through to Adam Jahn, who played to Abolfathi for the game-winner at 84:31. UCLA had one final chance to tie in the 88th minute, but Perkins stopped Hoffman for the third time in the game.

With the loss, the Bruins drop to 8-3-1, 3-1-0 in the Pac-10. Stanford improves to 6-6-0, 2-2-0 in the Pac-10. UCLA will face Pac-10 leader California in Berkeley on Sunday at 2 pm.
