LOS ANGELES (AP) - Lazeric Jones scored 14 points to help UCLA defeat Pepperdine, 62-39, on Monday night for the Bruins' first win of the year at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
David Wear and freshman Norman Powell added 10 points each for the Bruins (2-4), who are playing at the Los Angeles Sports Arena this season while Pauley Pavilion is renovated.
Travis Wear finished with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Bruins.
UCLA raced to a 28-11 lead by halftime and outscored the Waves by a 34-28 margin in the second half. Pepperdine's 39 points marked the lowest point total by a UCLA opponent since March 20, 2008, when the Bruins cruised past Mississippi Valley State, 70-29, in a first-round match at the NCAA Tournament.
Corbin Moore and Joshua Lowery scored nine points each for the Waves (3-3), who beat Arizona State of the Pac-12 but have since dropped three in a row.
Trailing 7-6 with 11:24 remaining in the first half, UCLA used an 11-0 scoring run over the game's next 3:45 to secure a 17-7 cushion. Travis and David Wear combined for eight of UCLA's 11 points during that scoring run.
The Bruins built their largest lead of the first half on a tip-in by Travis Wear with three seconds to play before halftime.
UCLA led by no fewer than 12 points in the second half. Pepperdine outscored UCLA, 7-2, in the first 1:43 after halftime before the Bruins continued to build on their lead. UCLA pushed its advantage to 27 points (58-31) with 5:08 remaining.
