Sophomore Tiffany Lua ended the day in a tie for first while the No. 2 ranked UCLA women's golf team finished the first round of the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge in 3rd place.

Palos Verdes Golf Course was the real winner on the day as no team was able to shoot under par for the opening round. The Bruins posted a score of 296 (+12) which put them six shots back of leaders USC, who recorded a 290 (+6). The Trojans currently hold a five stroke lead over second place Pepperdine, who put up an overall score of 295 (+11). Arizona State finished the day in 4th place with a 298 (+14) while Florida rounded out the top five with a 305 (+21).

Individually, Lua was just one of two people to post a round under par on the day, as she put up a one-under par 70. This put her in a tie for first place along with Ohio State's Amy Meier. Senior Glory Yang and sophomore Lee Lopez each recorded a 75 (+4) and finished the day tied for 17th place. Junior Brianna Do shot 76 (+5) in her opening round and tied for 20th. Junior Stephanie Kono tied for 31st after shooting a 78 (+7) while freshman Ani Gulugian competed as an individual and tied for 20th place with a 76 (+5).
