Men's Cross Country Races to Another Victory At Aztec Invitational

The Bruin cross country team raced well for their second meet of the season as they went down to San Diego on Saturday to race in the 67th annual Aztec Invitational. Both teams had strong performances as the men finished first and the women placed second. It was the second team victory of the season for the men's squad, and second runner-up finish for the women.

On the men's side, newcomers Shayne Collins and Lane Werley led the Bruins to their second team victory of the season in the invitational 8k race as they finished 1st and 2nd, respectively with times of 25:25.3 and 25:25.4. Close behind them were teammates Alec Govi and Joel Ambo, who finished 6th (26:17.7) and 7th (26:18.3), respectively.

The Lady Bruins competed in the invitational 5k race and had some strong performances from newcomers on the team. Placing fifth overall in the race and leading the Bruins was freshmen Hannah Valenzuela as she finished in 18:38.4. Valenzuela was followed by sophomore Rachel Butler and freshman Annie Mooney who finished eighth and ninth, respectively, with times of 18:59.6 and 19:01.3. The Bruins will continue their season next week as they head up north to Palo Alto, CA for the Stanford Invitational.
