
Men's Cross Country Opens 2011 Season With A Victory In Nevada

The men's cross country team started off the 2011 season with a victory as they won the Nevada Chase Race in Reno. The women, also competing at the meet, finished second.
Seven men and six women competed in the meet on Friday and had some strong performances to start off their season. In a handicapped style race in which the lowest-ranked athletes start first followed by groups of higher-ranked athletes at regular intervals, the Bruin men won with a team score of 31 points while the Lady Bruins finished second with a score of 54 points. . Sophomore Nohe Lema led the men as he finished third overall in a time of 19:57 Teammate Chase Zukerman, a redshirt freshman, finished fourth overall in a time of 19:57. On the women's side, the team was led by freshman newcomer Sarah Toberty who finished second overall with a time of 18:58. Another strong performance came from redshirt freshman Kelsey Smith who made who Bruin cross country debut on Friday running 19:28.
The men's and women's team will now head to Mammoth Lakes, CA for some high altitude training. They will return to competition on September 17 when they head to San Diego for the Aztec Invitational.
