UCLA's Women's Golf team began their second tournament with an opening flourish on Friday, finishing the first round of the Fall Preview in second place after 18 holes.
UCLA, unranked after playing their first tournament of the year shorthanded, took advantage of the first day to reestablish themselves as contenders. The Bruins ended the round with an 18-hole score of 294 (+6). Still seven strokes back first-place and #13-ranked Auburn, at 287 (-1), the UCLA women finished a stroke ahead of #8 USC, who posted a score of 295 (+7) and finished in a tie for third with the University of Denver. Hosts #14 Georgia and #21 Alabama finished in a tie for fifth by each scoring a 296 (+8).
The Bruins were indisputably bolstered by the return of All-American Erynne Lee, as the sophomore finished atop the individual leaderboard after carding a 68 (-4) on the afternoon. Lee was followed by senior Lee Lopez and freshman Louise Ridderstrom, who finished at 75 (+3) apiece and tied for 32nd in the tourney overall. Junior Ani Gulugian finished with a 76 (+4) and sophomore Kyle Roig posted a 77 (+5) to round out the scoring for the Bruins.
The Bruins will be back in action again tomorrow as they look to fend off the pack and gain some ground on the Tigers. For tee times and pairings click here.
