Cross Country Wraps Up 2014 at NCAA Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The UCLA cross country team concluded its 2014 season at the NCAA Championships, held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course, Saturday morning. The men capped off their year by placing 18th, while the women finished 27th.

Junior Sergey Sushchickh paced the Bruins with a 54th place finish in a time of 31:08.6 on the 10K course. Junior Lane Werley followed in 92nd at 31:29.7 while junior Nick Hartle placed 113th in a time of 31:39.0.

Sophomore Jonah Diaz crossed the line in 31:46.3 in 125th and freshman Myles Smith scored for the Bruins with a 158th place finish in a time of 31:59.7.

Sophomore Ferdinand Edman placed 208th in a time of 32:43.6 and sophomore Austin O'Neil rounded out UCLA in 238th with a time of 34:09.8. All seven runners that competed for the UCLA men were underclassmen.

Four seniors finished off their Bruin careers by leading UCLA. Kelsey Smith finished 86th with a time of 21:07.5 on the 6K course. Bronte Golick closely followed in 97th with a time of 21:11.8 while Annie Mooney was 142nd in 21:30.0.

Meghan Marvin crossed the line at 21:39.5 in 165th and Aliya Shirif scored for the Bruins in 243rd in a time of 22:52.8.

Rounding out the UCLA women were Roni Yamane in 249th with a time of 23:18.5 and Emily Sharmann in 250th at 23:24.3.
