No. 2 Women's Tennis Wins Seventh Straight
March 22, 2014 | Women's Tennis
With two teams ranked in the top 10 nationally in doubles, UCLA, as expected, earned the one point awarded for doubles play. Sixth-ranked Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips got things started for the Bruins at court No. 2, registering an 8-2 win over Natali Coronel and Grace Ysidora. Top-ranked Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady then clinched the point for UCLA at court No. 1, where they beat Elianne Douglas-Miron and Riko Shimizu, 8-4.
Three straight-set victories in singles would soon follow for the Bruins, who would go on to take an insurmountable 4-0 lead. Wins by Chanelle Van Nguyen, McPhillips and Harrison quickly finished off the Huskies (10-7; 0-5 Pac-12), who were seeking their first conference victory this season.
With the match already decided, UCLA got singles wins from Courtney Dolehide, Brady and Anderson to make the final score 7-0.
UCLA returns home to the Los Angeles Tennis Center next week, hosting Washington State on Friday at 11:30 a.m. and Oregon on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Both matches will be carried by the Pac-12 Networks.
