No. 1 UCLA Defeats No. 4 California, 10-3

LOS ANGELES. -- The No. 1 UCLA women's water polo team (16-1, 2-0 MPSF) posted a 10-3 victory over No. 4 California (14-4, 0-1) on Sunday afternoon on the Pac-12 Networks at Spieker Aquatics Center. The three goals for the Golden Bears were a season-low.

Junior Kodi Hill led the Bruins with three goals as seven different Bruins scored.

California struck first when Dora Antal scored a power play goal (5:46). UCLA's Rachel Fattal answered with a power play goal of her own on the Bruins' next possession to tie it at 1-1 (5:08). Stephanie Mutafyan gave Cal a 2-1 lead with a front court goal at the 3:16 mark of the opening period. The Bruins got a counter attack goal from Hill (2:03) to tie it at 2-2. UCLA took its first lead of the game with another counter goal, this time from India Forster (1:24). Mackenzie Barr scored her first of the game on a 6-on-5 opportunity to end the scoring in the first period with UCLA leading 4-2.

The Bruins blanked California in the second period, 3-0. Hill scored her second of the game with a bar-in power play score to push the lead to 5-2 (7:10). Then Emily Donohoe scored her first of the game to make it five unanswered scores, pushing the lead to 6-2 (1:08). Barr scored her second of the game on a shot at set that hit the bar and bounced in off of the back of the Golden Bears' goalie to end the third period scoring at 7-2.

Hill completed a hat trick to open the scoring in the third period with an exclusion goal (3:21) to push the lead to 8-2. Alys Williams finished the scoring in the period with a counter attack strike to make it 9-2, the Bruins' eighth unanswered goal

The Golden Bears snapped the scoring run with a power play goal from Michelle Caron at the 6:20 mark of the fourth period. Charlotte Pratt got in the scoring column with a cross-cage goal to end the scoring at 10-3.

Sami Hill had another stellar outing in the cage for the Bruins allowing just one goal at full strength and two power play goals while making six saves. UCLA held California to just 2-for-10 on power plays. Madeline Trabucco registered three saves in goal for the Golden Bears. The Bruins were 4-for-8 on power plays. Neither team attempted a penalty shot.

The Bruins return to action on Saturday, Mar. 14 when they host CSU Bakersfield at 1:00 p.m. in an MPSF match.
