No. 4 Bruins Blank Anteaters, 7-0

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – In its first outing since returning from the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship, the fourth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team blanked UC Irvine on Saturday morning. The Bruins improve to 8-2 on the season with the 7-0 win.
The Bruins made quick work of the Anteaters in doubles play, clinching the point on court 3. Shortly after Joseph Di Giulio and Karue Sell downed their Irvine opponents on court 2, Gage Brymer and Maxime Cressy followed suit on court 3 to give UCLA a 1-0 advantage.
No. 34 Mackenzie McDonald struck first for the Bruins in singles play, coasting by 67th-ranked Sebastian Heim in straights. Di Giulio quickly dispatched Vatsal Bajpai on court 6 to tally another Bruin point. No. 80 Gage Brymer delivered the knockout punch on court 3, cruising past Tyler Pham, 6-3, 6-1. The Bruins clinched the match, 4-0.

The remaining matches played out on courts 2, 4, and 5. Both Sell and Logan Staggs took their matches in straight sets. Court 3 was the only match to go three sets. No. 37 Redlicki nabbed the first set, 6-1, but Nico Mertens rallied to force a third. Despite a back-and-forth battle early in the set, Redlicki pulled away with it at the end to give the Bruins a 7-0 lead over the Anteaters.
Next up, the Bruins hit the road to face No. 22 Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif. The match takes place on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m.
