No. 6 UCLA Blanks No. 39 Washington

SEATTLE, Wash. – The sixth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team blanked No. 39 Washington in its Easter Sunday conference clash. With the 4-0 win, the Bruins improve to 14-2 overall and 2-0 in Pac-12 play.
Doubles play opened with both teams trading sets on courts 1 and 3. The fourth-ranked duo of Mackenzie McDonald and Martin Redlicki downed Piers Foley and Wendell Wantanabe, 6-2, at the top of the lineup, while Gage Brymer and Maxime Cressy fell to Jake Douglas and Gal Hakak, 6-2. Joseph Di Giulio and Karue Sell led Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer, 6-5, on court 2 in the battle for the doubles point. The Washington pair held to knot the score at 6-6 and send it into the tiebreaker. Di Giulio and Sell outlasted their opponents, giving UCLA a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

The Bruins set the tone in singles, winning five of six first sets over the Dawgs. Ninth-ranked McDonald struck first, defeating No 84 Mitch Stewart in straights on court 1. Di Giulio followed suit on court 6, downing Joao Barra in straight sets to extend UCLA's lead to 3-0. For the second straight match, the deciding point came from Logan Staggs. This time, the Bruin took down Foley in straights to clinch the match for UCLA.

Next up, the Bruins return home to host the Bay Area teams. UCLA faces No. 43 Stanford at 3 pm PDT on Friday, Apr. 1, followed by No. 15 California at 3 pm PDT on Saturday, Apr. 2.
