LOS ANGELES - UCLA head coach Derek Freeman has announced the signing of Harrison Mahon to a National Letter of Intent. Mahon will join the Bruin men's golf team this upcoming fall.
“We are thrilled with Harrison joining our golf team this fall,” Freeman said. “He comes from a golfing family with a Bruin background. His father, Brian, played at UCLA and was a swing coach under Hank Haney for the majority of Harrison's junior golf career. Harrison is coming to UCLA with a vast knowledge of the game and is looking to further develop his skills. We believe he will have a wonderful and very successful career in Westwood.”
Mahon is in his senior year at Rancho Bernardo High School in San Diego. A transfer from Texas (Hebron HS), Mahon earned medalist honors at the San Diego Country Club Invitational in March. The Broncos are currently the second-ranked team in San Diego County. Mahon's father, Brian, played with the Bruins from 1983-1986, participating in three Pac-10 Championships and the 1984 NCAA Championship.
“I'm excited to play for Coach Freeman and represent UCLA the way my father did in the early 80's,” Mahon said. “I'm honored to be a part of this great class and play for one of the top programs in the country. I'm looking forward to everything UCLA has to offer as a student-athlete. It is going to be an awesome four years and I will definitely take full advantage of this opportunity and enjoy every minute of it.”
