UCLA Closed Out Pac-12 Championships

SEATTLE, Wash. – The UCLA track and field team wrapped up the first phase of their postseason at the Pac-12 Championships on Sunday at Husky Track. The Bruin men finished third in the team standings with 94.20 points while the women finished fifth with 66.50 points.

Senior Nicholas Scarvelis once again was one of the highlights of the meet as he came back and captured the discus title with a throw of 187-10. Scarvelis is the first Bruin since Dan Ames in 2004 to win both the shot and discus in the same Pac-12 Championship. Freshman Dotun Ogundeji also reached the podium by finishing third with a throw of 177-1.

The men's quartet of Kenny Walker, Rai Benjamin Damion Marshall and Leon Powell finished fourth in the 4x100m relay with a season best time of 40.22.

Sophomore Misana Viltz finished fourth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.25 while senior Trinity Wilson placed eighth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.24.

UCLA earned more crucial points in the 100m as Powell placed fifth with a time of 10.59 and Walker followed at 10.66. Freshman Angie Annelus placed seventh in the women's 100m with a time of 11.65. Annelus followed that up by placing sixth in the 200m with a time of 23.81 while Powell finished also finished sixth at 21.52.

Also in the field senior Faith Anumba finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 40-3.75. Sophomore Idrees Bernard placed eighth with a mark of 48-11.50. In the discus freshman Stamatia Scarvelis came back to finish seventh with a throw of 163-10.

In the pole vault freshman Greta Wagner finished third at 12-10 while sophomore Elleyse Garrett followed in fifth at 12-2. In the men's high jump Cody Crampton placed sixth at 6-9.75 while Sage Stone and Michael Burke tied for seventh at 6-8.

In the men's 800m senior Nick Hartle placed fifth with a time of 1:48.57. In the women's 400m hurdles freshman Jasmine Stauffacher-Gray placed fifth with a time of 59.31. In the men's 400m hurdles Andre Chapman placed sixth with a personal best 52.40. Freshman Rai Benjamin was scratched from the final.

The Bruins will continue the postseason at the NCAA West Regional. The three-day meet will begin on Thursday, May 26 at the University of Kansas.
