UCLA Scores OT Winner over Aztecs, 2-1

October 15, 2017 | Men's Soccer

LOS ANGELESEric Iloski scored the game-winning goal in the fifth minute of overtime, while Anderson Asiedu netted his first career goal as the UCLA men's soccer team earned a 2-1 overtime win over San Diego State on Sunday from Drake Stadium. With the win, the Bruins are now riding a three-match winning streak and improve to 3-2 in league play.

"Just when you think you've seen it all in a soccer game, you see tonight's game," said head coach Jorge Salcedo. "It's hard to put your finger on how they tied the game at the end besides a touch of brilliance and a fantastic finish. I was most proud of the guys that they didn't put their heads down as they went into overtime very composed and under control. Our goal was a clear example of having good patience and good execution. Overall this is a result we are happy with."

In overtime, Eric Iloski scored his first career goal to give UCLA its second-straight overtime victory as the play was set up by both of his brothers. In the 95th minute, Brian Iloski started the play by passing to Milan Iloski toward the goal line, who then found Eric Iloski towards the top of the box as his strong shot beat the outstretched arms of the keeper to the left post.

San Diego State (4-9-0, 0-5-0) sent the game to overtime with only two seconds remaining in regulation as Jereon Meefout sent a long pass into the penalty area towards Ilai Shvika who collected the pass of his chest and hit a line drive shot to the upper, far corner for the equalizer.

UCLA opened the scoring in the 83rd minute when Eirik Baekkelund and Santiago Herrera found a streaking Asiedu past the Aztec backline with a through ball. Asiedu then took a low shot to the far corner for the first of his UCLA career.

Kevin Silva made three saves and allowed his first goal in three matches, while SDSU's Adam Allmaras registered five saves.

UCLA outshot San Diego State 17-10, including 7-4 in shots on goal, while also holding a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Bruins will be on the road next week for its final non-conference games of the regular season as they head to New Mexico on Wednesday at 6 p.m. PT followed by taking on San Diego on Sunday at 5 p.m. PT.
