October 18, 2017 | Men's Soccer
Albuquerque, N.M. – Matthew Powell scored the equalizing goal in the 52nd minute off a Brian Iloski assist as the UCLA men's soccer team played No. 24 New Mexico to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday from the UNM Soccer Complex. The Bruins are now 6-5-1 on the season as they played their third-straight overtime match.
"Tonight was a tough match," said head coach Jorge Salcedo. "Playing here in New Mexico is challenging. Once again very proud of our guys for getting a positive result. Being down to 10 men for 26 minutes made it even more difficult. The overtime was all us and we created some of the best chances of the whole game. We have now gone four games unbeaten and we will continue to get better."
Trailing 1-0 heading into the second half, the Bruins were able to find the equalizer in the 52nd minute off a set piece. Iloski took a free kick from the left side of the field and found Powell for a header who beat the keep to the far post. It marks Powell's second goal of the season.

New Mexico scored the first goal of the game in the 15th minute as Aaron Herrera took a long shot from midfield that sailed over goalkeeper Kevin Silva's head and into the back of the net.
UCLA played a man down for the final 26 minutes of the match as Anderson Asiedu was issued a red card after a foul in the 84th minute.
Despite the man advantage for the Lobos, the Bruins were the aggressors in the first overtime. Santiago Herrera flicked a header on net in the 95th minute but UNM made the save followed shortly by Milan Iloski taking a shot in the 98th minute that went just over the crossbar.
New Mexico pushed the action in the second overtime, holding a 4-2 advantage in shots, but could only find one on goal from the top of the box in the 108th minute.
New Mexico (8-3-2) finished the match with a 16-14 lead in shots, but the Bruins led 6-5 in shots on goal. Silva finished the match with four saves, while Jason Beaulieu registered five saves.
The Bruins will play its final non-conference game of the season on Sunday when they travel to San Diego to take on USD at 5 p.m. PT from Torero Stadium. The match will be live streamed on TheW.tv.
