Yoshihara Has Birdie Fest on Final Day of Hayt

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Freshman Hidetoshi Yoshihara closed strong on Sunday at The Hayt, firing a 4-under 68 to post his best collegiate finish of his first season. Yoshihara placed fourth with a 54-hole total of 4-under 212.
Yoshihara was rolling in the birdies at the Sawgrass Country Club, making eight of them. Starting on the 10th, he balanced his books on his first nine, making birdies on #11, #15 and #16 to go with three bogeys. Following a bogey on the first hole, Yoshihara went 5-under in the final eight holes, making back-to-back birdies on #2 and #3 and then three in a row to wrap up his round on #7, #8 and #9. The freshman led the field in birdies made (15) and par-4 scoring (-2).
Junior Tyler Collier also finished in the Top 10, tying for seventh after an even-par 72 on Sunday. For the tournament, he was even-par 216. Collier made five birdies on #11, #16, #18, #7 and #8 to go with five bogeys.
Sophomore Cole Madey was the next best finisher for the Bruins at T-62 (+16, 232). He shot an 11-over 83 with four bogeys, two doubles and a triple. Sophomore Phil Delisi, playing as an individual, tied for 73rd (+20, 236) after a 9-over 81 on Sunday. He birdied the eighth to go with two bogeys and four doubles. Freshman Harrison Mahon tied for 77th (+23, 239), shooting an 11-over 83 in his final round. He birdied the eighth, adding six bogeys and three doubles. Junior Corey Shaun was 80th (+28, 244), also shooting an 83 (+11), making eight bogeys and a triple. Sophomore Patrick Murphy placed 83rd (+39, 255), shooting a final-round 86 (+14). He birdied the third and made two bogeys, five doubles and a triple.
As a team, the Bruins finished in 13th place at +35 (899), posting a +18 (306) on Sunday.
Next up for UCLA is a trip to the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista for the Lamkin San Diego Classic (March 13-14), hosted by the University of San Diego.
