Bruins Down in San Diego at Lamkin Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Bruins venture south for their next tournament, taking part in the Lamkin San Diego Classic at the San Diego Country Club. The tournament will take place on Monday (36 holes) and Tuesday (18 holes) on the par-72, 7,033-yard layout.
The scoring fivesome for the Bruins will be juniors Tyler Collier and Corey Shaun, sophomore Cole Madey and freshmen Harrison Mahon and Hidetoshi Yoshihara. Monday will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., while Tuesday's play will begin at 8 a.m off split tees. Live scoring will be available here.
Joining the Bruins, 50th in the Golfweek rankings as of March 8, will be #13 Texas, #22 Duke, #24 North Carolina, #27 Mississippi, #29 San Diego State, #49 New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado State, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Pacific, Saint Mary's, San Diego and Santa Clara.
The Bruins are playing for the fourth time in the 2017 portion of their schedule. UCLA was seventh at the Arizona Intercollegiate (Jan. 23-24), tied for seventh at the Amer Ari Invitational (Feb. 2-4) and 13th at The Hayt (Feb. 24-26).
Yoshihara is tops on the squad with a 71.5 scoring average, having gone under par in five of his last six rounds. He finished a season-best fourth at The Hayt (-4, 212), ending the tournament with a 4-under 68. Yoshihara was under par in all three rounds at the Amer Ari, tying for 22nd (-5, 211). Seven of his 14 rounds have seen the freshman play in red figures.
Collier is second in scoring average at 72.2, coming off a T-7 finish at The Hayt (E, 216) thanks to a second-round, 5-under 67. It was his fifth under-par round of the season. Collier's best finish this year came at the season-opening Marquette Intercollegiate (-1, 209), where he tied for fifth. Madey holds a 73.1 scoring average. He has three Top 20s, including a T-10 at Marquette (+1, 221) and a T-12 at Arizona (+5, 218). Madey was 2-under (214) at the Amer Ari.
Shaun tied for 27th at the Amer Ari, shooting a 4-under 212. He has played in all four tournaments of the spring season, tying for 37th at Arizona (+13, 226). Mahon will also be playing in his fourth tournament of the season, but just his second as a scoring member. His season best came as an individual at the Arizona Medalist Intercollegiate (Jan. 22-23), as he tied for 10th (+11, 224).
