
Bruins Advance to Third-Place Match at Cypress Point Classic

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - The Bruins defeated Illinois in the quarterfinals (fourball) of the Cypress Point Classic on Monday morning before falling in the afternoon to Georgia Tech in the semifinals (foursomes). UCLA will face Stanford in the third-place match (singles) on Tuesday.
In the match-play, Ryder Cup-style format, junior Devon Bling and sophomore Bryan Wiyang Teoh defeated Illinois' Adrien Dumont de Chassart and Giovanni Tadiotto, 4 and 3, while senior Hidetoshi Yoshihara and junior Eddy Lai claimed a 2-up win over Varun Chopra and Brendan O'Reilly. Sophomore Sean Maruyama and freshman Chaz Aurilia tied Michael Feagles and Tommy Kuhl, as the Bruins won the overall match by a score of 2.5 to 0.5.
In Monday afternoon's foursomes, the Bruins fell 2-0, as the third match (Maruyama-Aurilia vs. Tyler Strafaci-Luke Schniederjans) was not completed once Georgia Tech clinched the overall contest. Bling and Teoh fell to Connor Howe and Noah Norton, 4 and 3, while Yoshihara and Lai fell to Andy Ogletree and Ben Smith, 3 and 2.
Tuesday's singles against Stanford will begin at 8 a.m.
