UCLA Rowing to Compete at San Diego Crew Classic

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA women's rowing team will compete at the two-day San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay in San Diego this weekend. Races are slated to take place on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7.
The Bruins will race two varsity eight crews, two varsity four crews and one novice eight boat this weekend. UCLA's races on Saturday will take place at 9:12 a.m. (varsity eight), 9:52 a.m. (second varsity eight), 10:16 a.m. (varsity four) and 10:48 a.m. (novice eight). The Bruins' second varsity four crew will only race on Sunday.
Race times and heat assignments for Sunday will be determined after Saturday's races. The San Diego Crew Classic website will be listing schedules and results online, available here.
UCLA's varsity eight crew will compete against Washington, Stanford, Gonzaga, Tennessee and San Diego State on Saturday morning. The Bruins' second varsity eight will race against Washington, Tennessee, Sacramento State, Drexel and Saint Mary's. The varsity four will compete with California, Gonzaga, Sacramento State and San Diego, while the novice eight crew will race against Washington, Texas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, San Diego and Sacramento State.
Last season, UCLA's program advanced each of its crews to Grand Final races on Sunday. The Bruins' second varsity four posted a first-place finish in its Grand Final race, while the team's novice eight secured a third-place finish in the Grand Final.
"We are looking forward to great competition this weekend in San Diego," UCLA head coach Amy Fuller Kearney said. "This will be an opportunity to face many strong teams representing difference conferences around the country. The San Diego Crew Classic is always a great event, a regatta that our team looks forward to each year."
Saturday's races on Mission Bay will mark the Bruins' third competition of the spring season. Last month, UCLA opened the spring with consecutive home dual-meet victories against San Diego State (March 9) and Loyola Marymount (March 16).
Following the two-day San Diego Crew Classic, UCLA will compete at the Clemson Invitational in Lake Hartwell, S.C., on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20.
