The Broncos also came close in the sixth minute when Julie Doyle got ahead of the defense, but her shot went wide left.
UCLA had its best shot in the 17th minute when Ashley Sanchez and Mia Fishel combined to get a good look on frame, but Fishel's shot was stopped by Bronco goalkeeper Courtney Ogren.
Just two minutes later, Santa Clara struck first, off a set piece and lucky bounce. Off a corner kick, Machaela George's header went off the post and bounced off a Bruin defender into the goal to break the scoreless tie.
