Bruins Head to the Desert for The Prestige

LA QUINTA, Calif. - The Bruins head to the desert this week for The Prestige presented by Charles Schwab. The 54-hole, three-day tournament which starts on Monday will be played at the Greg Norman Course at PGA West (par-71, 7,100 yards). Additionally, The Prestige Individual Tournament will be played at the Coral Mountain Golf Club (par-72, 7,144 yards) the same three days.

The scoring fivesome for UCLA will be senior Hidetoshi Yoshihara, juniors Devon Bling and Eddy Lai, sophomore Bryan Wiyang Teoh and freshman Tony Hendricks. On Monday, the Bruins start off the 10th tee at 8:40 a.m. in the order of Yoshihara, Teoh, Hendricks, Lai and Bling. Tee times start at 7:30 a.m. off split tees on Tuesday and Wednesday. The three Bruins playing at the individual tournament will be sophomores Ahmed Ali and Rory Feng and freshman Mason Greene. It will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start for the first and second rounds on Monday and Tuesday and a 6:45 a.m. start for Wednesday's final round.

Joining the 22nd-ranked Bruins in the 16-team field for The Prestige presented by Charles Schwab will be No. 1 Pepperdine, No. 9 Texas Tech, No. 13 SMU, No. 16 Texas, No. 25 LSU, No. 33 Oklahoma State, No. 35 Northwestern, No. 41 Arkansas, No. 42 San Diego State, No. 45 Stanford, Iowa State, Oregon State, Stirling University (Scotland), UC Davis and Wyoming.

The Bruins are looking to rebound following a seventh-place finish at the Southwestern Invitational (Jan. 27-28). UCLA finished at 23-over 887, but did score better in each successive round. The Bruins were third at the Marquette Intercollegiate (-5, 859, Oct. 6-8) and the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational (-35, 817, Nov. 1-3) and fifth at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational (+8, 872, Oct. 18-20).

Bling was the top finisher at the Southwestern Invitational, tying for 18th (+2, 218). It was his third Top 20 showing of the season, as he tied for 12th at Ka'anapali (-8, 205) and tied for 19th at Marquette (+2, 218). 

Lai was the top Bruin finisher in each of the first two events, including the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate, where he earned his first career victory. He shot a 7-under 209 after tying for fifth at Marquette (-4, 212) and tying for 18th at Ka'anapali (-7, 206). Eight of Lai's 12 rounds have been under par, including six in the 60s.

Teoh is tied with Bling and Lai with three Top 20s on the season. He was under par in all three rounds at Ka'anapali, tying for sixth at 11-under 202. Teoh also tied for 12th at Marquette (-1, 215) and tied for 19th in Georgia (+2, 218), having recorded five under-par rounds and four in the 60s.

Yoshihara has tallied four under-par rounds this season, tying for 10th at Marquette (-2, 214) and tying for 33rd at Ka'anapali (-5, 208). Hendricks, playing in his third event of the spring, finished third as an individual at the Providence Seabeggar Invitational (+9, 225, Feb. 3-4).

Ali is coming off an amazing round to end the Seabeggar Invite, shooting an 8-under 64 to place solo second (+8, 224). It will be his third event of the season, all in the spring and all as individuals. Feng, also in his third event as an individual, was 19th at Providence and 71st at Marquette. Greene will be in his fourth event as an individual, placing sixth at Providence and tying for 12th at the Bill Cullum Invitational (-5, 211, Oct. 14-15).
