Bruins Impress at Jim Bush Legends Invite

LOS ANGELES โ€“ Drake Stadium played host to outdoor competition for the first time in nearly two years Wednesday, as the Jim Bush Legends Invitational saw the Bruins earn 13 event victories on the day. The UCLA men's squad also picked up a team title with 81 points across nine events scored.

Throws
Alyssa Wilson made her 2021 debut in style, earning victories in the shot put (15.71m, 51-07.25), discus (51.77m, 169-10), and hammer (63.99m, 209-11) to kick off her campaign. Natalie Ramirez secured third place in the shot put (14.42m, 47-03.75), fourth place in the discus (47.45m, 155-8), and sixth in the hammer (47.98m 157-5) in her first-career meet at Drake Stadium. Jacob Wilson notched a victory in the men's shot to sweep the event for the Bruins, posting a career-best mark of 18.41m (60-04.75) for the win. Wilson also secured a second-place finish in the men's hammer with a toss of 60.40m (198-2). Dayne Gordien finished third in the men's discus with a launch of 50.61m (166-0). The women's javelin saw Ilaria Casarotto take second place overall with a toss of 46.91m (153-11). Lauren McFall took third at 44.01m (144-4).

Sprints/Hurdles
The UCLA men went 1-2-4 in the 400m, with Myles Misener-Daley picking up the win with a time of 47.22. Cameron Reynolds (47.53) and Chase Wells finished in third and fourth, respectively. Ismail Turner dominated the men's 200m, clocking a wind-aided time of 20.91 to take the win. Wells (21.78) and Josh Pikes (21.95) went 4-5 in the event. The women's competition saw Catherine Leger make her outdoor debut for the Bruins, flying to a legal 24.16 for the event victory. Maddy Doane took third at 24.16. Nyree Brown made her season debut in the 400m hurdles, going 1:03.76 for the event win. The Bruins capped the day with a win in the women's 4x400m relay, as the quartet of Kate Jendrezak, Jaylah Herron, Jade Hinds, and Dakota Stanly went 3:57.99 for the win.

Jumps
Harrison Schrage picked up his second victory in the long jump this season, going 7.54m (24-09.00) for the win. Alex Enos took fourth with a mark of 6.95m (22-09.75). Sophia Hartwell finished eighth in the women's competition, clearing 5.05m (16-07.00) in her Drake Stadium debut. Zaylon Thomas registered a win in the men's high jump, clearing 2.00m (6-06.00) for the event victory.

Pole Vault
The men's pole vault saw Tate Curran earn the win with a clearance of 5.20m (17-00.75), eclipsing the bar on his third attempt at the height. Kyle Brown took second place, clearing 4.90m (16-00.75). Mia Cervantes was the top finisher for the Bruin women, clearing 3.70m (12-04.00) on her third attempt at the height.

Up Next
The Bruins are set to compete in three different meets over the next several days. UCLA's distance crew is headed to the UC Irvine Distance Carnival for a one-day meet on Thursday, Mar. 25. The Bruins will send a contingent to the Aztec Invitational (Mar. 25-26) before hosting the Bob Larsen Track Meet at Drake Stadium on Saturday, Mar. 27.
