Junior forward Mia Fishel scored her team-leading eighth goal in the 20th minute, heading in a perfectly-placed corner kick by Marley Canales to give UCLA an early 1-0 lead, and senior midfielder Maricarmen Reyes scored the game-winner in the 72nd minute off another corner kick.
The Bruins (9-0-1, 1-0-1) took the one-goal advantage gained by Fishel's goal into halftime. Goalkeeper Lauren Brzykcy, who was taking a 0.00 goals against average into the game, helped the cause with five saves in the half.
UCLA nearly scored early in the second half thanks to the play of Lexi Wright, who sent a dangerous cross into the box for Kennedy Faulknor. Arizona goalkeeper Hope Hisey disrupted the cross and then scrambled up to make a save on Canales' rebound shot.
Just four minutes later, the Wildcats (3-6-0, 0-2-0) tied it up on a give-and-go between Jill Aguilar and Madison Goerlinger that ended with Aguilar scoring with a left-footed shot from the top of the box. The goal was just the second allowed by UCLA this season, and it ended Brzykcy's shutout streak at 849 scoreless minutes.
While their shutout streak ended at eight games, the Bruins were not about to let their 16-game unbeaten streak end as well. On UCLA's 11th corner kick of the night, Canales served a ball into the box. Wright went up for the header and sent it out to Reyes, who hit it top shelf for her third goal of the season.
The Bruins outshot the Wildcats, 21-14 and had 13 shots on goal. Hisey, the Pac-12 saves leader, made 11 saves, while Brzykcy, who has the lowest goals against average in the Pac-12, finished with six saves. UCLA had 13 corner kicks to Arizona's two.
UCLA will next face Arizona State on Sunday, Oct. 3 in Tempe. The game will be televised live on Pac-12 Los Angeles at 3pm.
