No. 14 UCLA to Compete at The Gold Rush

LOS ANGELES – The No. 14 UCLA women's golf team will compete at The Gold Rush held at the Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif. The 54-hole stroke play event will begin with two rounds on Monday, Feb. 28 and end with one more round on Tuesday, March 1.

The Bruins' starting five will be composed of freshmen Caroline Canales, Zoe Campos and Alessia Nobilio, redshirt sophomore Ty Akabane and juniors Yuki Yoshihara. Yoshihara – who played her first three rounds of the year two weeks ago at the Lamkin Invitational – has now qualified for UCLA in back-to-back events.
The Bruins will also be sending four individual competitors in juniors Annabel Wilson and Emilie Paltrinieri and seniors Simar Singh and Phoebe Yue.
Tee times are scheduled for 7:45 a.m. PT on Monday and 7 a.m. PT on Tuesday.
Event History
This will be UCLA's first time competing at The Gold Rush in the tournament's history. The event has taken place in nine out of the last 11 years (not played in 2012 and 2020). USC was last year's winner, shooting an even-par 864.
The Field
Joining the Bruins in the 11-team field is No. 15 USC, tournament host Long Beach State, Cal State San Marcos, CSUN, Fresno State, Hawai'i, New Mexico State, Northern Illinois, Pepperdine, Sam Houston and Wyoming.
Last Time Out
Junior Emma Spitz posted her second top-10 finish of the season to lead the Bruins at the Lamkin Invitational, tying for sixth at 3-over 219. Spitz shot 4-under, 140 and was tied for first place through her first two rounds before absorbing a 7-over 79 performance on day three.
As a team, the Bruins finished in sixth place out of the 14-team field at 30-over 894 on The Farms Gold Club.
Freshman Caroline Canales skyrocketed up 10 spots on the individual leaderboard with a 2-over, 74 to end day three tied for 16th, earning her second top-20 finish of the season.
