Women's Tennis Overpowers UC Santa Barbara

LOS ANGELES – The No. 19 UCLA women's tennis team got its weekend underway with a 4-0 victory versus UC Santa Barbara Friday at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The Bruins (2-2), who will travel up the coast to meet No. 5 Pepperdine Saturday (12 p.m. PT), dropped just eight games in the five matches completed with the Gauchos (1-4). Vanessa Ong clinched the overall win, backing up similar efforts by Abbey Forbes and Sasha Vagramov. Each victorious singles participant registered one 6-0 set.
Elevated to the top doubles court for their first time as a pair, Forbes and Ava Catanzarite collaborated on a 6-1 victory against Shakhnoza Khatamova and Elizaveta Volodko to get UCLA in the win column and improve their record to 3-1. Their teammates on Court 3 soon followed suit, as Vagramov and Kimmi Hance bested Filippa Bruu-Syversen and Camille Kiss by an identical 6-1 score. The victory represents Hance's first of her dual-match career.
In singles play, No. 68 Forbes stood across the Court 1 net from Khatamova once more. Forbes again made quick work of her counterpart, posting a 6-1, 6-0 win that brought the Bruins' lead to 2-0. Forbes is now 3-0 in singles play during the dual-match portion of the season.
Next off was No. 49 Vagramov, who also posted a spotless second set with a 6-3, 6-0 showing versus Kiss on Court 2 to make it 3-0. Vagramov has a team-high nine singles wins.
In her first singles appearance of the dual-match campaign, Ong provided the clinching point on Court 4. She triumphed over Amelia Honer, 6-0, 6-2, for her third-career match-deciding victory.
