Men's Tennis Drops Non-Conference Result at California

BERKELEY, Calif. โ The No. 23 UCLA men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 non-conference decision to California at the Golden Bears' Hellman Tennis Complex Saturday afternoon.
The Bruins (2-2) forced four singles third sets after dropping the doubles point, but just one match was finished. Yuta Kikuchi clinched the win for the Golden Bears (3-1).
The 15th-ranked pair of Kikuchi and Carl Emil Overbeck held off Alexander Hoogmartens and Bryce Pereira on the top court, 6-4, to get doubles play underway. Then, with the Court 3 matchup deadlocked at five games apiece, Sean Hill and Lucas Magnaudet seized the first point for Cal with a 6-3 decision over Drew Baird and Max Wild on the second court.
Singles play saw the Golden Bears take each of the six first sets. They would make it 2-0 thanks to a 6-1, 6-4 victory by Overbeck against No. 96 Leustian on Court 4. In his dual-match debut, Jeffrey Fradkin went to a first-set tiebreaker with Magnaudet on Court 6, but was ultimately felled in a 7-6(2), 6-0 result.
Karl Lee neared a win, while Giacomo Revelli led by a break of serve and Hoogmartens had just begun his third set, but UCLA was unable to get on the board. Baird forced a deciding set with Kikuchi, but was edged out there for a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 result.
The Bruins will look to rebound Sunday, when they meet No. 12 Stanford at Taube Family Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m. PT.
