BRUINS BEAT BUFFALOES IN PAC-12 OPENERย ย
Graduate forward Ally Cook scored two first half-goals to lead No. 5 UCLA to a 3-1 victory at No. 20 Colorado in the Pac-12 opener for both teams. The Buffaloes cut the lead in half in the 61st minute on a header off a corner kick, but the Bruins added a third goal in the 77th minute when Lexi Wright's shot was saved, but the save caromed off the leg of a Colorado defender into the back of the net for an own goal. UCLA outshot Colorado in the game, 20-5.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
ย
COOK, MCMAHON EARN SECOND PAC-12 OFFENSIVE HONORSย ย
Bruins Ally Cook and Quincy McMahon were selected this week's Pac-12 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Cook had a two-goal performance in the Bruins' 3-1 win at Colorado, moving into the team lead in scoring with five goals and 11 points. She ranks fourth in the Pac-12 in those categories and is second in the conference with two game-winning goals. Cook has totaled 27 career goals - 17 at Oregon from 2019-21 and 10 at UCLA from 2022-23. McMahon assisted on Cook's game-winner in the first half and helped lead a Bruin defensive effort that limited Colorado to just five shots and three shots on goal. Cook's Offensive Player of the Week award was her second this season. McMahon won Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second week in a row and for the third time in her career.
ย

TIP YOUR HAT TO FONTESย ย
After recording her second hat trick in as many seasons in the Long Beach State win on Sept. 7, graduate midfielder Sunshine Fontes was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week and the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready. Fontes moved up to No. 3 on UCLA's all-time list for career hat tricks, tied with teammate Reilyn Turner, Danesha Adams (2004-07) and Sarah-Gayle Swanson (2000-03). Fontes' first hat trick came on Aug. 25, 2022 vs. CSUN. She ranks second on the team in scoring this season with four goals and nine points.
