UCLA RETURNS HOME TO HOST NO. 3 PENN STATE, MICHIGAN STATE
The UCLA women's volleyball team returns to Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom to host one of the nation's top teams, No. 3 Penn State on Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. The Bruins will wrap up the week with Michigan State on Oct. 26 at 4 p.m. Thursday's matchup against the Nittany Lions will be televised live on Big Ten Network and the contest against the Spartans will be available for viewing on B1G+.
FIRST SERVE
UCLA and Penn State are set to face each other for the first time in nearly a decade, and Thursday's matchup will be the first in Los Angeles. The Nittany Lions won the previous matchup 3-0 in December 2014. UCLA holds an 8-6 advantage in the all-time series with five of those victories coming in the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins lead the all-time series against Michigan State 3-1. The teams have not met since December 2012 when the Spartans earned a four-set victory in the NCAA Tournament.
LAST WEEK'S RECAP
The Bruins were just the third team to take No. 10 Purdue to a decisive fifth set this season. Despite a career night from Cheridyn Leverette, the Boilermakers were able to snatch the final frame 15-11 to escape with the victory. The Bruins fall to 1-4 in five-set matches this season.
UCLA got back in the win column with its first-ever Big Ten Conference sweep, taking down Northwestern in straight sets on Sunday morning. Led by Grayce Olson's first career double-double (13 kills, 12 digs), the Bruins posted a team hitting percentage of .311 in the win over the Wildcats, its best mark in Big Ten action this season.
A NIGHT FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Cheridyn Leverette enjoyed the best night of her career against No. 10 Purdue, racking up a stunning 29 kills on 50 attempts, good for a hitting percentage of .480. She tallied 29 total points, also a career-best for the junior, while ascending into double-digits for the 15th consecutive match. Leverette's performance marks the highest kill tally by a Bruin since Mac May's 39-kill showing at Washington State on Oct. 3, 2021.
COMING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH
UCLA will reach the halfway point of the conference schedule at the conclusion of this week's contests. The Bruins are 3-5 in Big Ten play, which places them in a tie for 11th in the conference standings. UCLA will play seven of its last 12 matches inside Pauley Pavilion as it looks to acumulate some important resumé-building wins in the closing stages of the season. The last half of the conference slate includes four matchups against ranked opponents: No. 16 USC, No. 11 Oregon (twice), and No. 9 Wisconsin.
UCLA ON B1G+
Saturday's match will air on B1G+, the Big Ten Network's subscription streaming platform, which offers access to nearly 2,500 events annually. The Bruins will be streamed on B1G+ at least 10 times this season, with six games scheduled to be televised on Big Ten Network, and once on Peacock.
