Men’s Golf Finishes Seventh at Fighting Irish Classic

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The UCLA men's golf team finished in seventh place out of 15 teams at the Fighting Irish Classic on Monday, shooting 20-over 860.
 
The Bruins entered Monday's final round among the top four teams. UCLA carded a 16-over 296 in the third round on Monday at Warren Golf Course to finish in seventh place, overall.
 
UCLA seniors Omar Morales and Pablo Ereño concluded the two-day, 54-hole tournament as the Bruins' top best finishers. Morales shot 1-under 209 over all three rounds (t-7th), while Ereño shot 4-over 214 (t-17th). Morales birdies three of his first seven holes on Monday, hanging within the top two to three spots on the individual leaderboard. He had two bogeys, one double bogey and one birdie on the back nine holes.
 
Junior Kyle An carded a 6-over 216 at the Fighting Irish Classic (t-22nd). Sophomore Luke Powell (t-53rd) shot 12-over 222, while freshman Trevor Garus concluded his first collegiate tournament shooting 15-over 225.
 
Competing as an individual, freshman Baylor Larrabee tied for 38th, shooting eight-over 218.
 
Serving as the tournament host, Notre Dame won the two-day Fighting Irish Classic (5-under 835). The second through sixth place finishers included, in order, Purdue, Louisville, Arkansas Little Rock, Tennessee and Georgia Southern. The Bruins finished four strokes behind Georgia Southern (16-over 856).
 
UCLA will return to action at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational on Friday, Oct. 18. That tournament will run from Friday, Oct. 18 through Sunday, Oct. 20. Last season, Morales won the second medal of his collegiate career by earning co-champion honors at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 2023). UCLA finished 11th out of 15 teams at even par 864.

The UCLA men's golf team shot 4-over 564 through the first two rounds of the Fighting Irish Classic at Warren Golf Course. The Bruins were tied for third place with University of Arkansas at Little Rock (out of 15 teams).
 
UCLA seniors Omar Morales and Pablo Ereño entered the third round on Monday morning among the top five leaders on the individual leaderboard. Morales shot 2-under 138 through the opening 36 holes, while Ereño shot 1-under 139 on Sunday.
 
Notre Dame (2-over 562) and Louisville (3-over 563) finished Sunday's action in the first and second spots, respectively, while UCLA and Arkansas Little Rock were tied for third place (4-over 564). Purdue finished in fifth place (5-over 565), while Iowa registered a sixth-place finish through the first two rounds (8-over 568).
 
Bruins' junior Kyle An shot 3-over 143, and sophomore Luke Powell shot 4-over 144. Rounding out UCLA's five competitors in the team competition was freshman Trevor Garus, who shot 8-over 148. Garus, a 6-foot-0 freshman from Boise, Idaho, shot a hole in one on the par-three fourth hole in the first round on Sunday. An finished with an eagle on the par-two 16th hole in the first round.
 
The Bruins' top two finishers on Sunday, Morales and Ereño, totaled 15 birdies between the first and second rounds. Morales had four birdies with no bogeys through the first 18 holes before totaling two birdies, one bogey and one triple bogey. Ereño had four birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey in the opening round (to finish 1-over 71). He finished the second round with five birdies and three bogeys, putting him at 2-under 68.
 
Freshman Baylor Larrabee shot 7-over 147, competing as an individual, through the opening two rounds at the University of Notre Dame.
