LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The No. 5 UCLA Women's Basketball team won its home opener against Colgate University in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on Sunday afternoon. The final score was 81-63.

Junior Lauren Betts continued her elite start to the season, scoring a career-high 31 points in UCLA's (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten) win over the Raiders (2-1, 0-0 Patriot League). Betts also recorded nine rebounds, two assists, three blocks, and a steal in the game.

Four Bruins finished the game with double figures, including Betts. Freshman Elina Aarnisalo recorded 19 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Londynn Jones finished with 12 points and Timea Gardiner had ten.

The Bruins led at the end of the first quarter after shooting lights out from distance, finishing with a 71.4% 3-point percentage. Aarnisalo opened up scoring with a tough layup in her first home game as a UCLA Bruin. Four different Bruins ended the period with a made three-pointer. Londynn Jones started the surge with a shot assisted by Aarnisalo. Gardiner, Aarnisalo, and Avary Cain also found success from behind the 3-point line. Jones finished the quarter with her second three pointer of the game.

Both teams struggled offensively in the second period, but the Bruins maintained their lead with effort on the defensive end. Betts' dominant offensive performance led UCLA throughout the second; she picked up eight points, including a run where she scored six straight. Aarnisalo laced a midrange jumper as the clock ran out to extend the lead to eleven points heading.

The Bruins were dominant in the third, controlling the game on both ends of the floor. The Bruins had a lockdown defensive performance, forcing seven turnovers in ten minutes.  Both Gardiner and Betts scored on back-to-back possessions. Aarnisalo also found success in the third quarter, picking up five points, two rebounds, and a steal. To finish the quarter, Cain scored a layup off the fast break and Jones sank a mid-range jumper.

The Bruins secured the win and expanded their lead in the fourth quarter. Betts continued her efficiency in the post with six made layups and twelve points in the fourth. Aarnisalo hit her second three of the game to extend the lead to 25 late. The Bruins struggled with fouls throughout the fourth quarter, picking up seven in the final frame. In the final minute, Janiah Barker converted a turnover into a made layup to seal the game for the Bruins.
