UCLA Defeats Iowa in Four Sets

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA women's volleyball team secured their second consecutive victory in Big Ten play, defeating Iowa in four sets on Wednesday night at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.

Set scores were 25-23, 25-11, 23-25, 25-15.

The Bruins (14-14, 8-11) hit .319 as a team in one of their most efficient attacking displays during the conference schedule. UCLA blocked well on the night, tallying 10 blocks while holding the Hawkeyes to a hitting percentage of just .128.

UCLA committed only eight attack errors, compared to Iowa's 29.

The Bruins have won back-to-back games for the first time since Sept. 7-12 when they earned three consecutive sweeps over LIU, Prairie View A&M, and Texas A&M-Commerce (now East Texas A&M).

Cheridyn Leverette recorded a team-high 14 kills, collected six digs, and dealt a pair of service aces. Grayce Olson knocked down 12 kills at a .524 clip, committing just one attack error in the contest. Also reaching double-digits was middle blocker Anna Dodson, registering 10 kills while posting a .476 hitting percentage.

Peyton Dueck earned her second career double-double, snuffing out 18 digs and tallying 11 assists. Setter Audrey Pak delivered another solid performance with 34 assists and seven digs.

Leilani Dodson came up with five blocks to lead the Bruins' defense and contributed seven kills (.476) on the offensive end.

UCLA prevailed in the opening set after trailing early in the frame. Iowa raced to a 5-3 lead, but the Bruins answered by winning eight of the next 10 points to storm into the lead. The visitors narrowed the gap to one point, but Olson's clever cross-court kill brought UCLA to set point. The Bruins clinched the set, 25-23, with a decisive kill from Kiki Horne.

The second set was never in doubt for the Bruins, roaring to a 9-1 lead after winning seven consecutive points. Horne put down a pair of kills while Olson caught fire with three successful swings, extending UCLA's lead to 10. The Bruins dominated the frame by hitting .417 while holding Iowa to just .071 to win the set decisively, 25-11. Through two sets, the Bruins had committed just three attack errors.

UCLA started to fall out of system in the third set, hitting just .194. This allowed Iowa to extend the match after grabbing a set three victory.

The Bruins cruised in the final frame, using five kills from A. Dodson and three more from Leverette to coast to the 25-15 win.
