PARIS, FRANCE – The No. 5 UCLA women's basketball team picked up an opening night win over No.17 Louisville in Paris, France on Monday evening, 66-59.

Betts led both teams in points and rebounds en route to her first double-double of the 2024-25 season, and the 14th of her career.
Two other Bruins scored in double figures, with transfer Timea Gardiner recording 15 points and junior Londynn Jones scoring 13. The UCLA bench outpaced the Cardinals reserves, outscoring Louisville's substitutes 23-11. The Bruins also led the game in paint points with 32-20.
The Bruins got off to a slow start, scoring only once in the first four minutes of the game and finishing the quarter down 13-18. Betts led the team with 10 points in the period. Gardiner also made an impact in her first quarter as a Bruin, nailing a 3-pointer and helping the offense establish its scoring rhythm.
UCLA's offense was stronger in the second quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 19-11. Gardiner and transfer Janiah Baker led the period in scoring, picking up six points a piece. UCLA took the lead for the first time in the game off of a driving layup from Baker off of a fast break. Betts showed her versatility in the second, picking up six rebounds and four assists in the quarter.
The Cardinals put forth a strong effort in the third quarter, but the Bruins managed to extend their lead to 50-46 through consistency on both ends of the floor. Freshman Elina Aarnisalo made an impact in her first college game, earning a hard-fought steal and scoring a layup in transition to tie the game. Jones also contributed to UCLA's high-scoring quarter, hitting two free throws, a layup, and a three-point jumper.
Gardiner continued her dominant scoring night in the fourth quarter, making another triple in the fourth, contributing to her 5-of-7 3-point shooting throughout the night.
In the final two minutes of action, Gardiner and Betts continued to dominate the game. After Gabriela Jaquez found Betts down low, Betts kicked the ball out to Gardiner, who drilled the three, putting the Bruins up 64-54 with 1:49 remaining.
Jones was also clutch in the final quarter of action with a made field goal, two free throws, and a three-pointer in the period. The Bruins maintained their lead throughout the fourth quarter, holding Louisville to only 13 points en route to a 66-59 opening-night win.
