Men’s Golf Tees Up at Thunderbird Collegiate

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men's golf team will play its final regular-season tournament at the Thunderbird Collegiate at Papago Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz. this week.
 
The two-day, 54-hole stroke play event begins with 36 holes on Friday, April 12, and concludes with 18 holes on Saturday, April 13. The field consists of 17 teams.
 
The Bruins tee off for the first round at 7:02 a.m. (PT).

History at the Thunderbird Collegiate
UCLA has won ASU's Thunderbird Collegiate three times in the tournament's 50-year history, which dates back to 1973. The Bruins won team titles in 1998 (+13), 1987 and 1979. Two Bruins have medaled at the Thunderbird Collegiate: Brandon DiTullio in 1998 and Corey Pavin in 1979.
 
At the 2008 edition of the Thunderbird Collegiate, UCLA carded an 18-hole score program record with a 20-under 268 in the second round.
 
This week marks UCLA head coach Armen Kirakossian's return to the Thunderbird Collegiate since accepting the lead job in Westwood. Kirakossian spent five seasons at Arizona State, two as associate head coach and three as an assistant.
 
Last Time Out
UCLA placed ninth out of 31 teams with a score of 12-over 852 at The Goodwin at TPC Harding Park on March 31. The Bruins finished ahead of two top-25 teams (then-No. 20 California and then-No. 24 Oregon).
 
Juniors Pablo Ereño and Omar Morales led UCLA's lineup with two top-10 finishes. Ereño, who tied for sixth at 2-under (70-68-70), posted his third straight top-10 mark. Ereño was bogey-free in his 2-under 68 round on Friday.
