Bruins Advance to Match Play of NCAA Championships

CARLSBAD, Calif. – The UCLA women's golf team finished stroke play in sixth place and earned a spot in match play as a result. The Bruins last advanced to match play in 2022.
UCLA concluded the final day of stroke play 16 shots back of Stanford (+2, 1154) in first place, while LSU (+2, 1154) and Texas A&M (+5, 1157) rounded out the top three. The other teams that advanced to match play include USC (4-seed), Clemson (5-seed), Oregon (7-seed), and Auburn (8-seed).
The Bruins will play Texas A&M in the quarterfinals on Tuesday morning, beginning at 6:50 a.m. PT on the 10th hole. The winner of that quarterfinal will play the winner of LSU and Oregon in the semifinals on Tuesday afternoon. Fans can watch the action live on the Golf Channel or streaming on Peacock. Coverage will begin at 10 a.m. PT.
Adela Cernousek of Texas A&M earned the individual stroke play title, finishing -12 to win the individual national championship. UCLA's Zoe Antoinette Campos finished even-par for the tournament and in a tie for 10th overall.
The course conditions were difficult throughout the day for all 15 programs. For the second day in a row only one school, USC, managed to shoot under par as a team, and only 14 individuals finished even-par or better at the end of the final day of stroke play.
UCLA finished the round +9 for the day and +19 for the tournament, putting the Bruins sixth overall and under the cut line by two spots.
Campos recorded the lowest round of the day when she finished one-under on the day. The junior shot even-par on the front nine, before recording a one-under 35 on the back nine. Her round featured four birdies, 11 pars, and three bogeys. Additionally, Campos finished tied for the lowest average score on par 3's over the course of the four rounds with an average score of 2.88 strokes per par three.
The other four Bruins all finished within three shots of each other on Monday. Meghan Royal and Natalie Vo both shot three-over, Caroline Canales finished at four-over, and Kate Villegas carded at +5 on Monday.
Royal's round featured a birdie on the third hole, 14 pars, a bogey and a double bogey, while Vo's round included two birdies, 11 pars, and five bogeys. Canales 76 included two birdies, 11 pars, four bogeys, and one double bogey. She finished the four days with 53 pars, the third most of any competitor. Villegas concluded her round of 77 with two birdies, 10 pars, five bogeys, and a double bogey.

Tuesday continues the three days of coverage on The Golf Channel beginning at 10 a.m. PT. Bob Papa and Karen Stupples will be in the booth along with Steve Burkowski. About the NCAA Championships:
Thirty teams and six individuals take the course for three rounds of stroke play Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The field will be cut to 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team after Sunday's round, with the final round of stroke play taking place Monday. The individual national champion will be crowned on Monday and the top eight teams will advance to match play competition.
The quarterfinals and semifinals of match play will be on Tuesday, May 21. The NCAA title match will be played Wednesday, May 22 to determine the team champion.
